A well-prepared viewing saves everyone time. Bring photo ID, recent proof of income and a former landlord's contact details.

During the visit, check water pressure, windows, heating, outlets and soundproofing. Ask what is included (appliances, parking, storage), the move-in date and whether pets are allowed. Take photos and notes: after several viewings they will help you compare.

Prepare your criteria

Set a budget including rent, electricity, insurance, transport and services not included. Separate essential needs from preferences: bedrooms, public transit, storage or parking. This makes it easier to compare homes beyond their decoration.

Observe the home and building

Check for moisture, inspect doors and windows, ventilation and common areas. Ask how repairs are reported and who to contact if something goes wrong. Visiting the neighbourhood at different times also helps you assess noise and commuting.

Confirm what is included

Request written confirmation of appliances, extra charges, building rules and the occupancy date. Listing photos alone do not establish what will be included in the lease. Record questions and resolve them before committing.

Protect personal information

Verify the recipient’s identity before sending a full application. Ask why each item is necessary and how it will be protected. Bring only relevant documents and do not leave originals.

General information: rules and circumstances may vary. Check official sources or consult a professional about your situation.
